Northern Ireland Wedding Photography : Karen & Philip

When Karen & Philip called in for their pre-wedding discussion Karen was explaining to me the location of her family home near Glenarm, a few miles this way, a couple of turns that way and you are there. Great directions and I arrived in good time, although she could just have said – after reaching the ‘area of outstanding natural beauty’ drive further towards Glenarm and once you see the spot with the fantastic view and tourist lay by, our cottage sits beside it, on the hill.

Stunning views of Kintyre and Arran Island could be seen from their cottage where Karens dad has been living almost all his life.

The wedding ceremony was in Coleraine town center at New Row Presbrytrian Church where a swift shower started as the men arrived. Along with junior usher Tommy the men rushed into the church porch for some shelter with little Tommy not very impressed at getting his cute suit rained on. Since Philip is from Dublin the couple provided a coach to make it easy for their out of town guests to attend without having to worry about finding locations etc.

Once the formal proceedings were over the smile on Philips face coming down the aisle beamed as a relaxed Karen waved to friends and family. Waiting for them at the church door with keepsake gifts were nephew Tommy, flowergirl Brook and Philip’s close friend JJ, all of them looking cute in their Sunday best.

Worried that the weather could take a change for the worse we made our way to Bishops’ Gate at the Downhill for some group pictures which we managed to squeeze in before a heavy shower had us running for cover under umbrellas. Usual for this time of year, the shower didn’t last long and the sky started to clear so we could continued to Lions gate and the entrance to Downhill Castle and Mussenden Temple.

Looking splendid with great clear views we grabbed the opportunity and started with outdoor shots on the cliffs edge before heading inside to capture some beautiful window light shots in this 18th Century landmark.
When heading back to Coleraine for the wedding reception at The Lodge Hotel I was already starting to imagine how splendid Karen & Philip’s album will look with all the North Coast coverage that we have included in the shoot, giving them both lots to show off to city friends when they take it back to Dublin with them.

Perhaps all the reminders in the album might even entice them to settle somewhere up this direction as they begin married life, after all being raised in an ‘area of outstanding natural beauty’ can’t be easy to give up.:-)

Wedding Photography Northern Ireland : Nicola & Jonathan

A beautiful spring morning, not to sunny and not to windy as I set off down the road to Ballymena to capture Jonathan’s marriage to the lovely Nicola. It was great to be asked to photograph their big day as I already knew Jonathan’s family from photographing his sister Alison’s wedding a few years before and cousin Chris’s wedding last winter.

The ceremony took place at what has to be one of the nicest Churches in Ballymena, St Patricks Church of Ireland, a close reminder of St Patricks in Coleraine where my own wedding was held.

Vibrant colours were in abundance as Nicolas’ Mum and bridesmaids stepped out of a luxurious vintage limousine. Little flower-girl Kerry and pageboy Lyle almost stole the show before Nicola arrived as admirers gathered to get shots to take home and show family and friends.

Then Nicola arrived and took the limelight, she looked stunning. Wearing a elegant diamante encrusted halter neck dress, it suited her to a tee, hooked onto dad and greeted by Rev Lloyd she made her way up the aisle to join her man.

The marriage register was signed while guests were entertained by a great guitarist and it was time to walk out as Mr & Mrs Smith! Following the photo-shoot in Ballymena it was a short drive out the road to The Ross Park Hotel where everyone enjoyed a fabulous meal and evenings entertainment.

Award Winning Photography : Congratulations to our clients

After reaching the final it’s a BIG Congratulations and a HUGE thank you to our award winning clients.

Lynne & Matthew’s wedding was on a stormy wet day last year in Portstewart, it was time to get creative. With very few outdoor options, almost all of their wedding photos were taken inside which sometimes can be repetitive. Not today, after a quick reckei around the reception venue I could see potential in various shapes and sizes. It paid off and in return for reaching the final of the PPANI Annual Awards they receive these two beautiful images.

Equally delighted were the McMullan family with a beautiful low key black and white Portrait of proud dad David holding his baby son close to his chest. The Judges said simplicity, and great interaction made this a worthy finalists out of over 300 entries. The family were thrilled when they called to receive this stunning image.

Easter Wedding Photography Londonderry : Debbie & Keith

Whenever Debbie enquired about wedding photography, I was delighted for her. Having taken her graduation portrait a few years ago and invited to shoot her sister Diane’s wedding after that, it has given us the chance to get to know each other.

During all the catch-up’s in the morning while I photographed the brides details everyone was calm and relaxed making a really pleasant atmosphere, just perfect for a family home full of fond memories.

A short drive to Kilfennan Presbyterian Church and it was time to meet Keith and his family. Page Boy Cody, Keith’s little 3 year old nephew kept everyone entertained as guests started to arrive and make there way inside as a mizzle of rain crept in.

After a joyous celebration given by the Rev Rob Craig, Debbie & Keith enjoyed mingling with guests before we headed back to Debbie’s mothers house for some photographs in the sheltered spots in and around the beautiful garden.

When we reached An Grianan Hotel in Burt, Donegal a warm welcome awaited us as guests had gathered in the foyer area. The bride and groom walked through laughing and chatting enjoying the company of all that were there.

Having eyed up a well lit corridor away from all the buzz I asked Debbie & Keith to join me for a few final bridal portraits to finish off the album. The daylight mixed with the ambient light gave these pictures a lovely warm glow. When we returned, the hotel had started calling guests into the dining room, so I said my goodbyes and gave them both time to get prepared for the next stage in an already spectacular day………

Easter Wedding Photography at The Dunadry Hotel : Jill & Mark

The Easter wedding season has got underway and with the recent upside down weather it was anyone’s guess if it would stay dry. Thankfully, the snow and sleet decided to keep at bay as the sunshine reminded us all what it was like last week when shorts and flip-flops made a brief appearance.

Today’s wedding was always going to be a fun filled day. When you get a couple returning from living overseas it’s the norm when they get back to have a huge catch up with family & friends and even better when it’s to celebrate a wedding!

It was in the historic Holy Trinity Church in Ballycastle, now over 250 years old, that guests gathered to watch Jill & Mark take their vows. Travelling from England a lot were taking advantage of the Easter break, unwinding into the long weekend and ready to enjoy the craic.

With the ceremony over Jill & Mark enjoyed mingling with their guests around the church until it was time to head down the road to The Dunadry Hotel just outside Antrim. A fantastic venue that has a comfortable lengthy conservatory that overlooks the lawn, enclosed at the opposite end by a patio area which the bedrooms overlook. This type of reception is very practical for allowing wedding couples to have pictures taken as guests can enjoy drinks while getting involved in the photo shoot. To finish up we went down by the The Six Mile Water River which runs by the side of the Estate giving it the ultimate seclusion and adding to the romantic feel of the day.

The Ballroom looked amazing with each table named after NI sports personality’s, a fitting tribute as Rory McIlroy starts his first day at this years Augusta tournament. Smooth apple green coloured heart shaped sweets with the couples name on them looked irresistible sitting on the tables surrounded by little mini Easter eggs. As we finished up the hotel swooped the Bride and Groom away for a chill out and the room started to fill up with guests taking their seats you knew the night was about to get into full swing!
